Kicking off the Holiday Season with
enthusiasm was a “hardy” group of Four Winder’s at the annual downtown Geneva
Christmas Walk. Although the weather was
crisp, it was a clear night which brought out fun loving crowds of children in
wagons and strollers, followed by pets, adults, teenagers, bell ringers and, of
course, Santa’s! The streets are blocked off from traffic so we could move
easily from place to place taking advantage of the free “goodies being passed
out. This ranged from (among the many ) hot chocolate, cider and cookies.
Adding to the fun was chestnuts being roasted on grills and given out (free),
outdoor stages set up to present singing groups with caroling, the lighting of
the main Christmas tree, live models in store windows (we especially enjoyed
the ballerinas performing the Nutcracker)! A well kept secret that we
discovered was going into their History Museum…you would think this would be boring
as a Christmas stop…but the inside of the building has several large rooms and
in the back was a huge room that held decorated trees done by various groups
and organizations that were amazing. We
were asked to vote on the one that impressed us the most to award a prize.
After all the shopping, gazing, ad strolling, we headed to the Old Town Pub on
Main Street to meet up with fellow Four Winder’s (where the lower level had
been reserved for us) to enjoy some camaraderie, conversation and food. This
was a wonderful event and I hope you were one of those enjoying it with
us….Mary Scharringhausen
