Four Winds 2nd Annual "Tube-A-Palooza" in review

Four Winds 2nd Annual Tube-A-Palooza – Potosi, Wisconsin on the Grant River

Once again, we had perfect weather for Tube-A-Palooza. Sunny with highs in the upper 80’s. All 16 Four Winds tubers got to Potosi in time for dinner at the Potosi Brewery. The fish-fry seemed to be the popular choice with others selecting sandwiches, wraps or burgers. The real big hit was the beer sampler where you can choose 6 different beers to tasting. We all retired early at the Potosi Inn to make sure we had plenty of sleep for the big day.

The next morning, we were all up and had breakfast by 9am and met at the general store for cooler packing and sandwich arrangement. Then we were off on the winding roads to the Grant River meeting spot. Grant river Tubing Company owners; Jake and Jack met us with bright smiles and took care of tying our floating tubes together and making special sure we did not lose our cooler tubes.

The water was cool but felt good on this hot and sunny day. The river was swift, much faster than last year and we meandered the river laughing and shouting “BUTT UP” when the river was low or there was an obstruction in the way. After 3 fun filled hours we came to the end of the run where we exited, huh umm, the river with ease.

Once back at the Potosi Inn, some rested while other went for a wine tasting with our friend Larry whom we met last year when he owned the Twisted Vines restaurant/bar. Larry now works for Whispering Bluffs winery with the winery located right in Potosi. After tasting many yummy wines, Larry finished it off with his Silver Metal award winning port from the Sunset International Wine Festival in Sonoma, CA.

At 6pm we all met at Twisted Vines for dinner where we pre-ordered our steaks consisting of either Prime Rib, Ribeye or Top Sirloin. Laughter again was on the menu as we all reminisced about the day and plans for tomorrow.

Sunday found us packing up to either enjoy the day in Galena, which is only 40 minutes South, or heading over to Whispering Bluffs winery for a personal tour from Larry. We then met Larry back at the tasting room to enjoy a little more wine before heading out to Cajun’s Jacks restaurant in Elizabeth, IL for lunch.

Action and laughter packed the entire weekend. We will see you again next year Potosi, thank you for another great trip!
