It all started with an idea, how about going to Europe over Spring Break. After much discussion, it was decided why not head to Switzerland, ski the Alps and visit nearby areas. You might say it was a ski and see trip. The trip was set up so that those who wished to ski as much as possible could, those who wanted to sightsee as much as possible could, and of course, anywhere in between was fine as well. Sheri was our trip leader and made the trip as flexible as possible. Her goal, as usual, was for everyone to have fun. We ended up with 38 people participating on the family-friendly trip.
Switzerland is about the size of Vermont and New Hampshire combined. California is about 10 times the size of Switzerland. It is such a beautiful area with the picturesque mountains all around and the churches and homes that were built long before America was known about by the Europeans.
After arriving in Zurich, we headed to our hotel (Club Hotel Davos) in Davos, Switzerland. Davos is home to the annual World Economic Forum and has a population of about 11,000 people. Once at the hotel, we all checked in, got organized, and headed down for dinner. Breakfast and dinners were all included in our stay while in Davos.
On Monday we had an optional excursion to Lucerne where we visited Lake Lucerne and the carved rock of the dying lion.
Tuesday was an open day. Some skied, some checked out Davos, and some did both. About 10 people skied at Parseen ski area while others skied over at Davos/Klosters another nearby resort. The ski conditions were quite nice at the top of the mountain and in the back. It was typical spring skiing towards the bottom where conditions were a bit sloppy.
On Wednesday we had another optional excursion to the nearby principality of Liechtenstein. It was a very picturesque area with both old and modern architecture surrounded by those scenic mountains.
Thursday was another open day where most skied while others shopped. The shoppers ended up being in the local newspaper for their shopping prowess. Skiing once again was very nice at the top of the mountain. Some did some racing and tested their speed at various areas where the ski area had set things up for those purposes.
On Friday we headed to St. Moritz for another optional excursion. It is a very modern city in Switzerland with a beautiful nearby lake and a glacier nearby.
On Saturday we had a final optional excursion to Zurich were some on the trip spent the night for an early flight out. Others headed back to Davos after the excursion.
Sunday, March 31st we all headed home from one of our memorable trips ever. Thank you, Sheri, for putting together such a wonderful trip.
