May President Letter

Prez Says

Hi Everyone!  The months keep flying by, May already, phew.  I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful ski season and are enjoying the spring season so far.  We are already busy planning for next year’s season of trips while also planning many spring, summer, and fall social events for all to enjoy.

Most of you likely know that I am your new President.  Patrick Clark and I had been sharing presidential duties as our clubs finalized our merger process.  Our new club board has a nice mixture of prior board members from both of the previous clubs.  I would like to thank everyone on both boards for all of their efforts over the past year as well as thank my current board for volunteering their valuable time to help make our club even better.

Our new board consists of myself (Russ Butler) as President, Phil Skultety as Vice President, Jackie Uznanski as Treasurer, Dave Breyer as Executive Secretary, Kathy Mitchell as Lodge President, Patrick Clark as Membership, Candace Skultety as Trip Director, Phil Wegrzyn as our Communications Director, Tony Zasadney as our Public Relations Director, Gregg Schuring as SnowTimes Newsletter Director, and Sheri Butler as our Social Director.  Quite a board with a lot of energetic people doing their best to ensure plenty of fun times ahead for all!  Our Sargent at Arms position remains open so if any member out there wishes to join the fun just let me or any other board member know.

In terms of other news, our spring banquet was just held this past Sunday, April 23rd at Pinstripes in Barrington.  There was plenty of food along with bocce ball and bowling for all who were interested.  Personally I thought the banquet was a great success but of course if you have thoughts on how to make it even better next year we are open to your input.

Voting is wrapping up on the Lodge By-Laws and that will be finalized at the May 4th general meeting.  If you have not voted online you still can do so and we will have some paper ballots available at the meeting as well for any of you who desire to wait until the last minute.

Coming up we will have a Cinco De Drinko event on May 5th, a games night at Fuddruckers on May 19th, a bike ride at Botanic Gardens on May 21st, and of course starting in June through the summer months we will have volleyball every Monday except for the 4th of July week.  Our first and last volleyball outings are cookouts so bring along something to share on June 5th for our first volleyball outing.  We will remind you to do the same on August 28th when the season wraps up.

Our trip seminar is coming up on May 20th so we will be busy searching out potential trip ideas for next year as well as ideas for future years.   We are of course looking at trips out West as well as to the Midwest and also to the lodge.  In the meantime while all of that is going on we continue to plan social events.

Enjoy the rest of your SnowTimes Newsletter.  I know Tony Zasadney took plenty of pictures at the banquet and I always look forward to his articles.  All of the upcoming activities will also be detailed in the various links associated with this SnowTimes Newsletter.

Also one final reminder that our next general meeting will be Thursday, May 4th.  Our June meeting will be on Thursday June 1st and we have decided to not have a July meeting since it will be during the busy 4th of July week.  We will pick up again after skipping the monthly July meeting in August on Thursday, August 3rd.

I wanted to also convey my deepest condolences to Gregg Schuring on the passing of his mom earlier in April and of course I want to wish Phil Skultety and his family all the best with his mom and her health issues.  I also want to congratulate Phil on his new grandson and Candace on her new nephew.  I am not sure if Gus Chandler will see this or not but also wanted to wish him all the best in his new adventures in Florida.  He was a great instructor and friend and will be greatly missed.

That’s a wrap.  Looking forward to seeing you all very soon at an upcoming event or meeting.

Russ (Prez: Four Winds, Ski, Ride & Socialize Club)
