January Lodge trip

On Friday, January 20th, 2017 a baker’s dozen went up to the lodge for an extended weekend of skiing, eating, beveraging, game playing, conversing, and just plain old having fun.  Most members drove up during the day with the Butler clan arriving super late on Friday…ok, perhaps super early on Saturday as we arrived around 1am eastern time.  On Saturday after a wonderful breakfast prepared by Sheri Butler we headed to Nubs Nob.  Most went skiing however some took in shopping and looking at rock formations and the local artists and met up at Nubs Nob later during the day.  Kathy Mitchell called ahead and got a changing room for us, always a nice benefit of skiing at Nubs with a group.

The skiing was pretty good considering the warmish temperatures.  There were no lift lines and tables during lunch time were easily found.  All the runs were open although a couple chair lifts were for some reason closed.  All the runs were easily accessible however.  Those who skied did so the entire day.  Upon completion of our day at Nubs Nob we returned to the lodge.  After cleaning up from our day of skiing we kicked back in the kitchen with some beverages and munchies.  Soon enough we were having a spaghetti dinner with plenty of garlic bread, and salad.  Just a fantastic meal.  After cleaning up from the dinner we continued our evening in the kitchen by playing a rousing game of Apples to Apples.

On Sunday we once again had a wonder breakfast and then we headed to Boyne Highlands.  Once again no lift lines and all the runs were open.  It was a bit warmer on Sunday and a bit foggier but we still had plenty of skiing and most skied until the end of the day.  Some watched some football prior to departing for the lodge.  A few unfortunately had to head home early as they did not have Monday off.  Those who headed back to the lodge had plenty to eat with burgers, hot dogs, brats, fries, and salad.  After we finished dinner and cleaned up we played a word card game where you guess the word based on the definition.  It was a lot of fun and we actually learned some decent trivia to amaze our friends with.

Monday morning we all had a light breakfast and packed up for the drive home.  Our group did head to Tree Tops Resort which is about a 30 minute drive from the lodge to check it out.  We found Tree Tops to be a smaller ski area but there is a nice tubing run, dog sledding, and even a dinner package with a horse drawn sleigh ride so it has some potential.

Thanks again to Sheri Butler for putting together and running the lodge trip and for the wonderful meals.  Thanks also go to our great group that joined in the fun, Pat Mitchell, Kathy Mitchell, Jackie Uznanski, Nancy Uznanski, Jack Gildroy, Tony Zasadney, Dave Breyer, Sherie Hawker, Sarah Clark, Natalie Butler, and Diane Butler.  Oh, and yes I was there too and helped out where I could.

Hopefully next time more of us can get out to the lodge and join the fun.  The next drive up lodge trip is in February.  I had a few photos taken of this trip for your enjoyment but not as many as I should have.  It will give you a taste of the conditions though.
