he weekend of August 4th to August 6th several from Four Winds ventured up to our lodge in Boyne Falls, Michigan to partake in the annual Polish Fest. It was held a short walk from the lodge. In addition, while up in the area we also went to Mackinaw Island to enjoy the scenery, food, fudge, and a view into the past where horses provide the transportation and motorized vehicles are not allowed other than emergency ones.
Kathy M., Pat M., and Dave B. met up with Diane B., Sheri B., Russ B., and Natalie B. We met late on Friday. Several had gone to Polish Fest that evening for some great food and to check out the area. This event is quite a draw to the local area as cars were parked just about anywhere they could find a sport including at our lodge. Fortunately, Dave brought up a couple stands that he put no parking on to save a couple spots for our vehicles.
Saturday we all went to Mackinaw Island. The boat ride to and from the island is always a highlight. While on the island we went to Fort Mackinaw and read about the history of the fort. We also briefly visited the grounds at the Grand Hotel and had lunch there. It was quite delicious. Finally we, of course, picked up some fudge and enjoyed some ice cream. The next morning several went back to Polish Fest while others headed back home. By Monday everyone had departed the lodge.
It was a very enjoyable experience and perhaps next year more of us can attend the Polish Fest weekend. There are also other events near the lodge throughout the year as well as plenty of things to do near the lodge. Many also enjoy just going to the lodge to get some time away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
I provided some pictures below for your enjoyment courtesy of yours truly as well as Pat and Kathy. Photos are from Polish Fest at Boyne Falls as well as scenes from Mackinaw Island and Fort Mackinaw. One of the photos is a waiter at the Grand Hotel as he brings food to the table on his head. Thrown in for good measure are also some photos from the ski jumping at the CMSC picnic. You can see some views from underneath the actual jump as the ski jumpers zoom overhead as well as of several individuals from Four Winds watching as the jumpers go by including as Sheri walks down the jump right near the ski jumper.
