June - Presidents letter

Prez Says

Welcome to June.  Summer time is here!  Bike rides, volleyball, outdoor concerts and game nights are just a few of the events either planned or being planned.  If you have some ideas of something fun to do just let us know.

Several of us recently went to the trip seminar.  I would like to thank Sheri, Jackie, and Beth for spending their day with me at the trip seminar.  We all did a lot of networking with other clubs, learned some new ideas, and met with all of the vendors that were in attendance.  We learned about some new possible locations for the future and also reminded us of some wonderful places that perhaps we have not been to in quite some time.  We also discussed with the various tour operators what they had to offer.  It was a long day but I do think it was a productive one.

June of course means the start of volleyball.  Volleyball begins on Monday, June 5th at 6:30pm and we will be having a cookout that evening as well to help kick off the season.  Bring along something to share and whatever you would like to eat for your main meal.  We will be playing volleyball every Monday beginning at 6:30pm.  If you wish to bring along your bike and do a bike ride prior to volleyball feel free to do so.  We will not be playing volleyball during the 4th of July weekend but otherwise we will be there every Monday, weather permitting, until the last Monday of August.

This past month we held our Cinco De Drinko event on May 5th, had a games night at Fuddruckers on May 19th and did a Botanic Gardens bike ride on May 21st.  There were probably 15-20 riders for the Botanic Gardens ride.  It was a wonderful trail and very enjoyable.  I know Tony took plenty of pictures of the Bontanic Garden bike ride so enjoy his article and pictures.

On Friday, June 23rd we will be having a movie night in Arlington Heights.  It will be an outside event starting at 6:30pm to 11pm and we will be watching the movie “Sing”.  Bring along a comfy chair and something to eat for dinner and enjoy a pleasant summer night under the stars watching the movie.  See the link associated with this event for further details.

Enjoy the rest of your SnowTimes Newsletter.    All of the upcoming activities will also be detailed in the various links associated with this SnowTimes Newsletter.

For those who were not at the last general meeting the voting for the Lodge By-Laws have completed and they have been approved.  Work on the By-Laws for the club and the lodge was a very intensive process that the board spent quite a bit of time on and special thanks go out to Phil S., Candace, and Jackie who worked long hours to get them so that both clubs would be pleased with the end result.  Marty also spent long hours working on it as well and offered his legal insight to make sure that they were put together properly.  I would like to thank them all for their extra efforts on this.  I would also like to thank all of you who voted and provided input towards these By-Laws.

Also one final reminder that our June meeting will be on Thursday June 1st and we have decided to not have a July meeting since it will be during the busy 4th of July week.  We will pick up again after skipping the monthly July meeting on Thursday, August 3rd.

I also recently learned of the passing of one of Four Winds oldest life time honorary members, Victor Starykowicz.  Sadly he passed away on Saturday, May 20th.  Our deepest sympathies go out to all of his family and friends.

I think that is all for now.  Enjoy the upcoming summer season and hope to see you very soon at an upcoming event or meeting.
